Maryon Wilson 2005

Home Up

Last updated 18 November 2005

On Friday 18 November 2005 the Maryon-Wilson Swimming Race was again held at West Wickham Baths.  Two lengths or 66 metres means hard work and no breather!  A turnout of 14 swimmers and lots of spectators saw Nick Bunclark win, yet again (yawn, yawn!), in the even faster time this year of 37.88 seconds.  The handicap this year went to Michelle Fewster, only 12 years old she swam 46.41 and was the 6th fastest of the night!

In 1893 Sir Spencer Maryon-Wilson presented the trophy to the Club for the encouragement of swimming. For last couple of years the event has been held at West Wickham baths over two lengths.  As well as the scratch race there is a handicap event.  All members are encouraged to take part; any style, change of stoke allowed - you don't even have to dive in!

No, this was not the race - just a bit of fun at the end...
A good cross section of ages...
