Results as follows: Well done to Bridget and the girls on
the day, and to Jean Blackwell for getting them there! National Junior League Final - Moorways Stadium, Derby - 7 September 2003
With 20 athletes unavailable for the Final the remaining 22 travelled to Derby knowing that as a team they would finish in 8th place but there was quality competition available for individual athletes to test their skills. On the day, the team obviously peaked too soon, as with 2 events completed they were sitting proudly in 2nd place, only 2 points behind the leaders! In the hammer competition Amir Williamson gained a silver medal with a personal best throw of 49.99m. His brother Alistair also throwing a best of 43.13m gained a bronze medal in the B string. In the 400m hurdles Tom Robinson gained a B string bronze medal with a p.b. of 58.54s. That was the sum total of the medals and it was downhill from there on in. There were some good performances throughout the afternoon however. Lloyd Francis ran a best of 11.29s in the 100m and 23.57s in the 200m. David Holloway squeezed inside his p.b. in the 110m hurdles. Michael Leal and Richard Daniel achieved p.b.’s in the steeplechase. Tom Robinson just missed out on a further medal in the pole vault and had to settle for 4th place on count back. The 4 x 400m relay team were upgraded to 4th following a disqualification. Team Captain Chris Daniel picked up our National Junior League Trophy at the end of a pleasant weekend in the Midlands where the rain that was promised never arrived.
