John Hoy was a club member who
tragically lost his life, along with his three children, in
Thailand on Boxing Day 2004. They were on the beach at Khao Lak
when a tsunami struck. Only John's wife, Nim, survived. Since
then, members that compete in club track championship races from
800m to 10 kms earn points towards the trophy with the winner
being the person that has earned most points over the course of
the six races.
The trophy is open to senior and master men and women. Points
are awarded on a handicap basis runners earn
points using the internationally recognised Age Related tables.
These tables adjust finish times based on the gender and age of
each competitor so a 50 year old woman can compete on an equal
basis with a 30 year old man, for example.
