CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP Senior Women 8k Finally!!! We did it. No-one was injured, and no-one was ill, and everyone ran really well. The course itself wasn’t too challenging and the good weather meant the times were fast. Shavaun and Siobhan chased each other round the first lap, with Jennie not far behind. Coming into the second lap Siobhan was our leading lady with Jennie picking her was through the other runners. Shavaun held her position with Fran gradually catching up. Knowing they were in with a chance the girls put everything into the race and we got a brilliant result Leading the rest of our runners in, and competing for the club for the first time, was Jane Bradshaw in 84th. This is the first time the Senior Women's Cross Country Team have been in a medal position at an event as prestigious as the Southern XC Championships. They all deserve a huge Congratulations!!! With the University Championships next week and the Inter-Counties in a month we may see some more good individual performances before the Nationals. We only have 5 weeks to go before the final team challenge at the Nationals and hopefully we can keep fit and healthy and prove our strength up in Sunderland. Kate 6 January 2007 - KCAA Cross Country Championships KENT COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS DELING SHOWGROUND U20 Senior Women This years Championships moved from Sevenoaks to Detling Showground. Despite being relatively flat, the course was quite tough due to being run over very soggy ground. Our top 3 put us in second position behind Medway, again, who filled the top 5 places. Well done to Shavaun and Siobhan, who both did very well despite the bad weather, and muddy ground. Sadly we didn’t have enough runners to qualify for the 6 score. Our u20 girls did very well, getting the gold medals for the team, as well as being won overall by Bryony. Kate
16 December 2006 - Kent Cross Country League SENIOR WOMEN 5K 1 Jennie Butler 21.00 This was the last of our Kent Leagues for the year and it was all out to win. In another very large field we still produced a fifth of the entire field. Right from the start Jennie took the lead, and stayed there, and after a bit of chasing around in the woods, Jennie had made a big gap which wasn't challenged. Fran had another very good run, finishing 4th, her best result. Bella was just within the top ten but unfortunately Medway had 2nd, 3rd and 5th, so we came second on the day. We had equal points at the end of the league but again, Medway beat us on overall points with 49 against our 72. Still, a very good result. Well done to everyone who took part, we had more runners this year again, and it showed in the field. On the personal performance results we had 4 in the top
20; And... in the Vets category Excellent running ladies, I look forward to seeing you all again in next years league!! Kate 9 December 2006 - Kent Masters Championships at Swanley Ladies results W45 Good results for the ladies, our 35's successfully defended the title from last year. Good to have Lisa out in vets xc for the first time and also a debut for Amanda Taylor and Claire Robinson who had good runs. Despite recent injury Bridget and Miranda were valuable team members in the scoring 3, as always and good to have Angela and Alison both of whom had solid runs and congratulations to Annie, our only individual medal winner 3rd place in the w45s. We've never been placed in the 45s team before so our improvement continues. Thanks to everyone for turning out on what proved to be a
beautiful day and well done team! Mens results Good runs all round, more people would be better, injuries permitting! A storming finish from Neil took him from 7th to 5th in the final run in. M50 Fantastic runs by Alan and Tim, ably backed up by Graham who was the 3rd scorer. As usual backed up by Rob, Jim and Chris ever present in their support M60 Sadly Mike Martineau dnf he had a major breakdown with his shoe. 18 November 2006 International Cross-Country in Falkirk Dave Taylor won outright the veterans International Cross-Country in Falkirk and Alan Camp was 8th (5th English runner) in the M50s race. Both were running for England and helped the country to team victory in each case. Kent League, Danson Park 18 November 2006 SENIOR WOMEN 5K 6 Fran Green 25.02 There was a massive field at the senior womens race at Danson Park, helped along by the perfect conditions and afternoon sunshine. Over 70 runners started, 15 of which wore our vests, but alas 3 dropped out. We didn’t quite manage to uphold our winning streak, but came in 2nd behind Medway, who had pulled out all the stops with a triple of 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall. Our three scorers were Fran, who is continuing her good form, in 6th, Bella in 11th and Viv Mitchell in 17th, who has swapped allegiance from our mob rivals SLH. A great turn out, Well Done to everyone. Next (and final) Fixture; 16 December, Tunbridge Wells ENGLISH NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS - BERRY HILL PARK, MANSFIELD 4 NOVEMBER 2006 The Young Athletes team departed Norman Park for Nottingham on Friday without the services of Sherlock Holmes and his faithful assistants. No doubt this was due to the fact that Jimmy Stink was not on board. To everyone's joy Grumpy had been left behind replaced by the Sherriff of Nottingham. Casanova had turned down the opportunity join the tour, no doubt the prospect of cold shoulder had sent him off to a Premier League Rugby match instead. The Sherriff guided the tour party in good time to the "Nick" for the night. The new inmates were disappointed that they were not able to swim after their supper. Pat ‘The Cameraman’ once again managed to breakout to sample the wares of the local taverns. The evening passed without the need for reinforcements to be called in to keep the peace. The best of autumn weather and the Tent greeted us on our arrival at Berry Hill Park. Much to his team managers delight Julian produced a complete pair of spikes for the first race of the day. His delight was however short lived as Ross declared that he only had road shoes. Jess however came to his rescue with the loan of her shoes. The performance of the day was achieved by the under 15 girls who finished 10th in their race. The cry of best Kent club was heard throughout the day as the Tonbridge tent had taken its athletes to Belgium for a round of the Lotto Cross Cup. The most notable victory of the day was that in tent race, where even though they got off to a flying start the Shaftsbury Barnet tent could not hold it together in the anchor leg. As they attempted to move past we held our ground, led to SB tent failing to finish and limping back with a couple of broken spars. This is in no doubt due to John "The Tent" Robinson for laying a solid foundation of endurance work and core strength. Not so lucky were the entire team who attempted to break the record for the number of athletes on JR's chair. The only thing that was broken was the chair, which was seen hobbling off minus a leg. The team provided great support for other members of the B&B team utilising their full vocal range. Not so lucky were some unsuspecting competitors who were encouraged into the muddiest patches of the course; The results as published are as follows;
Senior Men Well done to the guys who raced on Saturday at the
National Cross Country relays in Mansfield. The results were: Jaime Atkinson - 15.23 (19th) Blackheath & Bromley 'B' Team Dave McKinley - 16.49 (72nd) Well done lads a good weekends work, this is just the warm
up for next years assault on some major silverware. Nick SENIOR WOMEN 3K 23RD 33.41 40 Shavaun Henry 11.10 The conditions under foot were perfect at Berry Hill, and
our senior women had a great run. With over 100 teams on the start line first
off was Shavaun Henry, who, in an incredibly fast leg came in 40th. Fran Green
held on and picked up a few places before handing over to Jennie Butler who ran
through the field to an excellent finish in 23rd. There was a great atmosphere
at the event with most of our age categories being represented. We all stayed
behind to watch the senior mens race, which as those of us who were there will
testify, turned out to be a nailbitingly exciting race to watch! KENT LEAGUE, CAPSTONE PARK 7 OCTOBER 2006 SENIOR WOMEN 1 JENNIE BUTLER 18.41 What a brilliant start to the cross country season. Twelve seniors lined up on the start and 8 finished within the top 20! Our very own Jennie Butler won the race outright, despite being sent in the wrong direction and having to chase the field to regain pole position. Next in was our U20, Bryony Proctor competing in the senior race and showing she is more than capable of keeping up! 3rd to score was Bella Clayton just behind. Needless to say with such good results we came 1st! A mention also to Clare Lodwig who had a flying run and stormed home in 10th place, her highest position yet. Well done to Justine Eastbury and Tara Emery who competed for the first time. Well done everyone. Kent Cross Country League 2006 Timetable for the Kent League fixtures are as follows:
NOTE: Fixture on 16 Dec does not include Senior Men. Their fixture is at Swanley on 17 Feb also starts at 2.30pm. |
